Wayne Hamilton AKA Captain Barkey known for the popular 1996 hit “Go Go Wine”, was early on Saturday morning shot in cold blood outside a Bronx motel .
Hamilton, 50 and his girlfriend Tracy Bennett, 38 were exiting the Holiday Motel around 3:10 a.m. when the lone gone man blasted over two dozen bullets into the couple.
According to police and witnesses Hamilton was shot as he ran from Bennett’s Toyota Camry to the motel office, the killer then turned is gun on Bennett who pleaded for her life while kneeling next to the vehicle.
The two died at the scene.
It’s believed that the shooter is an ex boyfriend who Bennett had a protective order against.
His death is a bit of life imitating art as he had another well-known song called “Bun Fi Bun” which spoke of different ways people react to being cheated on AKA “getting bun.”
Our condolences go out to both Hamilton and Bennett and their respective families. For those of you who might not remember him, check out his song “Go Go Wine” below, it was produced by Winston “Wee Pow” Powell (Stone Love) and it was one of the hottest hits for 1996. Though the song might not be a staple on radio today, it’s still a favorite at many jams and house parties, especially for people like myself who have greet memories of their teenage years attached to the song.
