As confident as Usain Bolt is with his fame and the phytsique that got him in the spotlight, the 26 year old sprinter has no plans to to pose nude, at least not for ESPN.
The record-breaking sprinter was approached by ESPN The Magazine for their 2012 Body Issue, which features athletes in the nude or semi-nude, and he told them no.
“We tried very hard to get Bolt but he was not comfortable with it. To my knowledge we focus really on American athletes but, of course, because Bolt is such a superstar so we tried to get him. We were trying from about January or February of this year. He (Bolt) is the only one I can recall right now who was approached; but it work both ways, we take suggestions and recommendations. We contact athletes and sometimes they contact us,” said Senior deputy editor of the magazine, Neely Lohmann.
According to Bolt’s Publicist Carole Beckford, this is not the first time the Jamaican superstar has been approached by the magazine to pose nude.
“Every year they approach him but there is no need for Bolt to do a semi-nude feature. Bolt is one of the finest athletes and his marketing team felt that posing nude wouldn’t enhance or grow his brand. That wouldn’t add any value to his brand.”
This year’s Body issue featured Carmelita Jeter and Walter Dix.
In her interview in the ESPN magazine, Jeter said she decided to pose nude because, “the Body issue shows the body as it is in science.”
She further said; “My coach, John Smith, believes in the science of track and field, and I wanted to experience doing a photo shoot that was purely about representing the body. I remembered seeing Blake Griffin’s photo, and I admired it. It wasn’t anything sexual; it just represented the muscles, the body, and it was the same with all the other athletes as well. It wasn’t so much of me wanting to get a point across, but I wanted to see myself as a representative of sports, as a representative of track and field, a representative of the human body.”
Over the years several sporting celebrities including tennis super-star Serena Williams and NBA sensation, Dwight Howard have posed nude for the magazine. [Jamaica Star]
Bolt is being linked to British model/athlete Megan Edwards who he reportedly dated during the 2012 Olympics.
The 26 year old sprinter met Edwards, 22 during the photoshoot to unveil Jamaica’s Olympic kit designed by Cedella Marley. They subsequently went on a couple of dates while he was in London for the games.
On one occasion Bolt went to Movida Club and shared a table team-mate Yohan Blake, boxers Amir Khan and Lennox Lewis, and hip-hop artist Nas.
A witness who saw Bolt and Edwards together at Movid tells the UK Sun:
“It was crazy, everyone was trying to get a piece of him — especially the girls. But Usain only had eyes for one girl that night, and that was Megan. She was by his side all night.”
A pal of Megan, 22, said: “Everyone was on great form, Usain was high-fiving the other athletes and posing for pictures as they drunk champagne. Megan was in her element and Usain introduced her to Lennox and Yohan and she had her picture taken with them. “She’s really smitten with Usain. It’s nothing too serious at the moment as he’s jetting all over the world — but they are two adults having fun.”
Usain had a giant Nebuchadnezzar of champagne at his table, which had to be specially ordered. Megan mentioned the giant bottle, worth around £50,000, on her Facebook page and posted a snap of her and the superstar holding it.
She told how she sat in the DJ booth with Bolt and posted snaps of the pair on the social networking site.
One was tagged: “Me n my Baby!! The Bolt!! X” When asked about the sprint ace, Megan replied to a friend: “Lol we tight n S*** lol! Yeah was a good night x.”
Edwards would not be Bolt’s first British
fling romance. He was previously linked to
pub barmaid Rebeckah Passley whom he allegedly cheated on with care home worker Gemma Jones.
He has also been linked to Jamaican-American reality stars Taneish “Lava” Simpson (VH1 “Flava of Love”) and Lesa “Milan” Wee Tom (BET “College Hill”). Earliar this year Bolt was linked to Slovakian fashion designer Lubica Slovak but that quickly fizzled as his focus was on the Olympics.
Well, the games are over don’t it.
