Singer Alicia Keys is co-producing a new film starring Jordin Sparks and Jennifer Hudson. The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is a coming of age story about two inner city youths, who are left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities. Other actors in the movie includeJeffrey Wright, Anthony Mackie and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. The film which started production last week in Brooklyn is directed by George Tillman Jr.
Alicia produced the play Stick Fly, by Lydia R Diamond. The play which made it’s Broadway debut late last year, tells the story of a wealthy black family who gather in Martha’s Vineyard for a holiday break.
And in September 2011 Keys directed a short film for a five-part anthology on breast cancer for Lifetime TV.
Meantime
She shot a commercial for Reebok over the weekend. Her hubby Swizz Beatz is the creative director for the company; guess he’s keeping it all in the family huh?
