Remember the pic I posted of that tiny single bed provided for the thousands of athletes participating in next week’s London Olympics???
Guess who WONT be sleeping in ‘em???
That’s right, Usain Bolt. His coach Glen Mills said nuh suh he can’t have Bolt in no urt-back bed (ok I said that
… but he did make a request for a custom-made orthopedic bed to be brought to bolt’s training camp to ensure the star athlete does not suffer further back problems.
The 6’5″ sprinter slept in the 7 foot bed on Tuesday while at his training camp at the University of Birmingham
The Olympic 100 and 200-metre champion withdrew from today’s Grand Prix in Monaco with a hamstring problem sustained during his defeat to compatriot Yohan Blake in June.
The Jamaican team will be training in Birmingham until July 26, when the team of 50 athletes and 25 staff will travel to London in time for the opening ceremony.
Considering how tight security has been around the olympic record holder, these pics of him during his training today are a bit of a rare sight, considering media are barred from taking any images of him prior to a scheduled conference on July 24.
Some interesting news… The London Telegraph reports that Ramler Furniture (the official supplier of furnture to the Olympics) has to sell all their items (beds, mattresses, coat hangers, lamps etc- over a million items) by the end of October. The 11,000 single beds supplied to the Olympic athletes village are on sale now for £39.99, while matresses cost £10.00 more. They won’t be delivered until the end of October following the Paralympic Games. The beds will come with a letter of authentication, but no athletes names will be identified.
Too bad Usain’s 7-footer won’t be there…
