R Kelly’s Reggae Sumfest performance is one month away and for a second time, it seems the performance may not occur due to medical issues.
The platinum-selling singer was rushed back to his hometown Chicago on Wednesday for medical treatement after falling ill while en route to New York.
According to a release from Kelly’s reps,”Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords. It is unclear how long Kelly may be sidelined.”
A NY book launch party and signing for his memoir “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me” were cancelled, as well as appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the Today show. Kelly’s latest album, Write Me Back, was also released this week.
Last year R. Kelly had to cancel his Sumfest performance to have surgery. This year he was announced as the international night headliner once more, even apologizing to fans for his absence and promising a great show in the video below:
No word yet from Summerfest Productions, the organizers of Reggae Sumfest, on whether there is any contingency plan in case of Kelly’s absence (he is the headliner for International Night 2). Reggae Sumfest dubbed the greatest reggae show on earth, is set for July 15 – 21 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. R& B singer Trey Songz headlines International night 1.
