Miss Dunn’s Electrical & Lighting, 21 year-old Deanna Robins was crowned Miss Jamaica World 2012 at the coronation ceremony held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Saturday June 23. She will represent Jamaica in Miss World 2012 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, and People’s Republic of China on August 18.
The 5’10″ tall beauty is a past student of St. Andrew High School and a recent graduate of the University of the West Indies where she earned a double major degree in Biology with a focus in Environmental Biology. She is currently a volunteer at the YMCA where she teaches reading to the underprivileged boys.
Top 3 from l-r: Trishauna Clarke, Deanna Robins and Rashida Beckford
The show was broadcast live on TVJ and many viewers gave their input via twitter using various hashtags such as #MJW2012, #MissJamaicaWorld #MJW and it seemed that Trishauna Clarke was the favorite to win.
She obviously did not get the crown but did cop the first place position. In third place was Rashida Beckford, followed by Shona Bewley with Lauren MacKay rounding up the top 5.
Top 5 from l-r: Shona Bewley, Trishauna Clarke, Deanna Robins, Rashida Beckford and Lauren MacKay
The Top 10 finalists were completed by Adrianna Bryan, Kelly-Ann Diedrick, Chevell Powell, Claudiann Berry and Lauren McClure.
The winner of the fast-track mini competitions, which guaranteed them a placing in the Top 10 were:Trishauna Clarke — beach beauty and sports, Adianna Bryan — model and talent, Rashida Beckford — beauty with a purpose
When it came to sectional prizes Deanna won Best Smile as well as the Planning Institute of Jamaica’s essay competition. Adrianna Bryan was voted Best Skin Tone, Trishauna Clarke, Best Legs; adnd Rashida Beckford, Most Aware.
The girls were all beautiful and most were relaxed during the question and answer segment but with some the nerves definitely got the best of them, most notably Claudiann Berry.
Miss Jamaica World 2012 hosts Regina Beaver and Michael Anthony Cuffe
The production could do with some work though as hosts Regina Beavers and Michael Anthony Cuffe just did not have a good rhythm together. Kiki who did backstage commentary was too Monday night football, think she needed to slow her speaking pace a teenny-weeny bit.
I-Candy (Candace Thorbourne) performed a song called “Center Di Floor” that I dunno, it was weird. She started off singing Nicki Minaj’s “Fly” acapella-style and then busted into a gyal brukout type song- just didn’t flow. I could get down to the track in the club though. BTW she is sister to Brick and Lace duo Nyanda and Nailah Thorbourne and won the talent segment of the pageant back in 2004. Singing Melody, what a great singer but Laad did he butcher “You Are So Beautiful” basically repeating the line over, and over, and over, and over…
