R&B superstars Trey Songz and himself R. Kelly will be performing at Reggae Sumfest 2012, set to take place from July 15-21 at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay.
According to the shows organizers, Songz and Kelly are both booked to perform on International Night 1 and 2 respectively.
R Kelly was actually booked to perform at Sumfest last year, but pulled out to have emergency throat surgery.
“R Kelly was so disappointed with not being able to come to Sumfest last year that we spent the whole year trying to work out a make-up date, which was Reggae Sumfest 2012,” said Sumfest head, Johnny Gourzong.
Gourzong added that he wanted Trey Songz on last year’s roster but his scheduling conflict prevented his performance.
“Trey Songz should also have been on the show last year but there was a scheduling conflict that made it impossible,” Gourzong said. “Everywhere I go, young people have been saying we need to have Trey Songz on the show, and hence, we decided to make it possible.”
Among the artistes billed for the event includes Damian “Junior Gong” Marley, Konshens, Tarrus Riley, Mavado, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Third World and a host of other local acts. On International Night I there will also be a special Jamaica 50 Tribute segment featuring John Holt, Yellow Man, U-Roy, Leroy Smart and Leroy Sibbles.
This will be the 20th stageing of the show. For more info visit the Official Reggae Sumfest website.
