Haitian Canadian is host of new ABC reality singing competition DUETS

Benjamin Quddus Philippe, popularly known as simply Quddus is the host of new ABC reality singing competition Duets which debuted last night (May 24).

The former MTV VJ is a Caribbean celeb!!!!

Oui, oui. He was born in Toronto to a Haitian Father and Dutch mother. The disc jockey, model, and actor found his niche as a host when he landed his gig at MTV’s Total Request Live from 2001-2006. He also co-hosted Dance on Sunset a dance series on Nickelodeon and Cambio Connect, the daily flagship web series on Cambio.com an entertainment site by AOL and The Jonas Group.

“Duets” is a one of a kind singing competition that takes the Superstars out from the judge’s panel and onto the stage. Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles, John Legend, and Robin Thicke will individually set out on a journey across America looking for undiscovered talent worthy to be their protégés. Ultimately, each Superstar will choose two singers to be their duet partners. Together, the Superstar and their protégé will take the stage each week and perform in front of a live studio audience. In the end, only one duet will be at the top of the charts and the winning amateur will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

Lionel was originally set to be a part of the cast but he was replaced by John Legend after he pulled out due to scheduling conflicts.

In an interview with Clevver Music, Quddus basically says that the show will blow away the competition.

Do you think he’s right?
