Machel might marry
That was the BB message I got from my girlfriend who had dubbed soca superstar Machel Montano her future husband and baby daddy.
She’s not the only one hinting at upcomng nuptials for the 2012 International Power & Groovy Soca Monarch and Road March winner. Apart from Machel, his momager Elizabeth Montano and his business manager James Walton were droping some seriously subliminal messages regarding marriage plans between Machel and his Canadian girlfriend Kavekke Keir at a thanksgiving ceremony on Saturday at the Chaguaramas golf course.
The event was in celebration of Machel’s 30 years in the soca business as well as a phenomenally successful 2012 Carnival Season. In attendance were his father Winston, brother Marcus, members of the soca fraternity including Farmer Nappy and Valerie Greene — mother of Kernal Roberts, Anthony Chow Lin On and Xtatik Music Distribution Agent Eddison Charles. Check out the notable quotes from the party which even got Machel to shed some tears (awww).
Machel:
“This year is about change. It’s about resetting. It’s about restarting. I was stillborn and dead for the first six minutes as I came into this world. So in my second life…this life, I can say I am reborn.
“Behind every great man, stands perhaps a better woman.”
“Every year, every week, every day…rebirth occurs and I cannot wait to start anew once again. God is love and he gave me beautiful children, a glorious family, a great band, the best friends and management that I can ask for…and then something more.”
Walton:
“First off let me open by saying, you all just may be here again come November. You never know. It’s a festive atmosphere this evening and with this setting, I think we’d all agree that a wedding may be the best next step!”
Elizabeth Montano:
“I sense another distinguished event coming soon for Machel but a bit more tranquil than we are accustomed to. We know the importance of family. Never settle for mediocrity and strive for the best at all times, whether in entertainment or in our family life,”
She also added that her son’s next “big event” would be the culmination of a decorated career.
Well Machel is is own man eh, but maybe seeing his fellow soca artists Kerwin DuBois (whose beachfront wedding he attended) and Kees taking the plunge has given him a further push to do the same later this year.
Now Machel and his mom both have November birthdays; the 24th and 4th respectively; but does Kevelle want her wedding anniversary the same month as her future-mother-in-law????
They seem like a close knit set….time will tell.
