Within two days, Trinidad has repeated what occurred at the Dominica Finals- a first time female monarch failed to hold on to her title. Duane O’Connor dethroned Karene Asche at the 2012 Calypso Monarch competition with his two entries “The Hunt is On” and “Long Live Calypso,” . O’Connor, who is also the Young King for 2012 secured the $1 million first prize.
Former Monarch, Kurt Allen, placed second. He received $750,000 for his two selections, “Long Live Calypso” and “When Will It End.”
Third place went to last year’s Monarch, Karene Asche. She received $250,000 for “Against All Odds” and “You Will Win the Battle But.”
