Although he is listed as CEO of file transfer site Megaupload before it shut down, it is still unclear what exactly was Swizz Beatz role in the company.
In a statement to Venture Beat, Megaupload lawyer Iva Tothen said that ” “to my knowledge, Swizz Beatz was never involved in any meaningful way. He was negotiating to become the CEO, but it was never official.”
So far the only definte thing that is known is he rounded up several of his celebrity friends to promote the company.
The deal with Megaupload, whatever it is, would not be the first business venture for Beatz, born Kassem Dean. He’s designed cars for Lotus and shoes for Reebok, and served as a professor at NYU’s Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music.
On Thursday, the Justice Department shut down Megaupload and arrested 4 of its employees including founder Kim Dotcom.
Beatz was not arrested nor named in the 72 page indictment.
