#JAMAICAVOTES: More than 1.6 million voters head to the polls

Just over 1.6 million Jamaicans are registered to vote in today’s general election, the 16th since Jamaicans gained Universal Adult Suffrage 67 years ago. Electors will go to approximately 7,000 polling stations across the island to cast their votes to determine whether Andrew Holness’ Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will remain in power or if Portia Simpson-Miller’s People’s National Party (PNP) will make a comeback.

Polls opened at 7 a.m and will close at 5PM.

According to the Jamaica Observer, by 11 a.m 23% of voters have cast their ballots.
