So on Monday Dec. 19 Portmore Empire head Vybz Kartel and his protege Gaza Slim appeared in court to answer on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice in the Clive “Lizard” Williams murder investigation.
Senior Magistrate Judge Judith Pusey denied both deejays bail when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court and remanded them into police custody. They are scheduled to appear back in court on January 9, 2012.
Jamaica Observer Cartoonist Clovis is already taking shots at the duo in his cartoon published in Monday’s paper.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was granted bail to the tune of $3 million earlier this month in the Barrington “Bossie” Bryan murder case. Since he was denied bail in the Williams case, Kartel will be spending the holidays locked up. So all those who were holding out to see him at Sting can let that one go.
Williams was reportedly murdered on August 16, 2011 in Havendale over a missing illegal firearm believed to be owned by Vybz Kartel. His body has not yet being found, however the prosecution said they have video surveillance implicating Kartel and his co-defendants in the murder. They are deejay Shawn Campbell, also known as “Shawn Storm”; fashion designer, Calvin Haye, also known as “Moonie”; Shane Williams, Andre St. John and Cayro Jones.
Now authorities are looking for another person of interest in the case. Kartel associate PimPim is asked to turn himself into the Spanish Town Police Station.
The defense still asking for evidence to be handed to them in this case and the presecution has until today December 20th to hand over said video evidence to Kartel’s attorneys.
Though the case has been moved to the high court (from Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s court) St. John and Williams will not be going to the high court. Meanwhile St. John and Kartel will appear in court on Feb. 13 2012 on ganja charges.
