1. WHAT’S your name?
My name is Melinda C Ulysses aka Mel-C.
2. WHERE are you repping?
I rep Dominica and Martinique and the rest of the Caribbean by extension.
3. WHY should we give you a listen?
I think that I deserve a listen because in my honest opinion, I’m not your ordinary artist. I feel that through my stories, I bring something different to the everyday repetition that music has turned into. Being from Dominica which I dare to say is very underrated when it comes to talent, my music (and the messages in it) is like a wake up call.
4. WHO inspires you and who are you working with?
My inspiration can come from almost everything, especially witnessing first-hand what goes on in the lives of my family members and friends.
I’m inspired by actions, body language, words, signs and yes other songs too. I bask in the lyrical masterpieces of John legend, Nasio Fontaine, Y’anna Crawley and Bob Marley among many others.
I work constantly with fellow artist Lady S; We almost never appear on stage without the other. My business partner Dane “Danejah” Smalling is very supportive.
In terms of music production, Marvin Carbon and Jervonne Christopher are always present at recording sessions to listen for mistakes or to add flavour. LOL.
I’m currently working with Mr. Malcom Richards aka D’Chapah of Pointe michel who is the owner of Audio Hazard studios, and the producer of my most successful song to date, ” What It Feels Like” among many others that have not yet been released.
I write and record dubplates with Shaney Shotgun
Right now I’m part of a very large music family based in Martinique we’re called Caribbean D’vasta.
I’m also the female vocalist for Ti Orchest, a very promising and upcoming band, managed by Mr. Craig Henry.
I’m on riddim projects with Clint Henderson and Yuri Jones, speaking of which look out for the ‘Brown Eyes Riddim!’
I work closely with Mr. Cocoman from the Czech Republic who produces some very fine riddims.
5. HOW can we find out more about you?
You can find out more about me through my Facebook Profile as well as my Caribbean D’Vasta page.
